Did you know thatyou can be fined $10,000.00 for "smuggling in" chewing gum? How abouttax incentives for having MORE kids? Or, government quotas on the ratioof Chinese to Malay residents to keep down the possibility of Malaysiancontrol. You can't smoke in any public place. And, the best one is thatyou have to pay $200K for a Mercedes and then the government willcharge you $100K to license it. Ten years later, it will cost you about $40K to re-license it and if you can't pay, your Mercedes becomes theproperty of the government. Oh yea, you have to PAY to send your kidsto PRIMARY SCHOOL.As for things to see. Check out the Island of Sentosa. I won't tell you muchbut it is VERY fun.Remember not to leave food on your plate in an eat as much as you likerestaurant, yep, more fine fines!I'm looking for an inexpensive (but clean and safe) hotel in Singapore.Any recommendations?Try the Supreme Hotel. It is near to or in fact next to Orchard Road. Located next to the Hoilday Inn and the Istana(Presidential Palace?). Ithink the rate is something like less than a S$100 or around that regionper night stay. Safe and clean. Rated 3 star. If not, try the NovotelOrchid Inn or Equitorial Hotel. Situated just opposite the street ofeach other and a less than five minutes away fom Orchard Road. Ratesshould be somewhere around the region of S$150.

It is in Chinatownand across the river from Clarke Quay with its many pubs andrestaurants. The Grand Plaza Hotel nearby is also very new and is closeto the City Hall MRT station.just my point of view..... you can experience INDIA in Singapore there....esp. on weekends. lots ofIndian workers around the area. New Park hotel also samequite ok hotel...but Concorde is not very convenient location.these two hotels are supposed to convert to condominiums soon. It might begood memory to stay there, coz you wont see here maybe on your next trip. There is a big Hindu Temple in front of this hotel.... If you wanna huv bitexotic surrounding, you can stay there.Amara is in the business district. Nothing much to do there unlessyou are on business.

singapore hotels : Be careful of mercenary Carlton Hotel when you travel in Singapore.It will block an amount of S$1000 dollars from your credit cardevery 4 days. However the rate is S$175 dollars per night stay.You need to prepare t least S$1175(1000+175) credit limit instead of S$175for 1 night stay and S$1700(1000+175*4) for 4 night stays instead ofS$700(175*4). This is very inconvenient to tourist travellers.This blockage policy is practiced without customers' knowledge.You will never know those transctions until Carlton Hotel bustsyour credit limit. It's useless to complain at Singapore TouristPromotion Board (STPB) since it acquiesces such audacious blockagepractices which are common in Singapore.Carlton Hotel cancels the block transactions until 1 week later afteryou settle down the payment. Carlton Hotel does so without noticingcustomers and claims it's common practice in Singapore hotel industry.If you travel in Singapore, be careful of the hotel you stay. You'd bettercontact credit card center often for your credit limit. Don't be surprisedif some transactions are made in Singapore without your knowledge ,even ifthe credit card is with you all the time.
