plaza hotel : Has anyone stayed at the Continental Plaza Hotel in Playa del Carmen? All comments are welcome! Thanks.Is the closeness of the ferry landing and airstrip annoying...We stayed at the Continental Plaza four years ago. The rooms were great and the pool area was very nice. There is an open air restaurant around the pool as well as an indoor restaurant. There's not much to do at night except maybe sit around the bar but I believe most people go into town and visit the many restaurants and bars there in the evening.When we were there, the beach was great, but we have returned to the area several times over the past few years and the hotel has lost a great deal of its sandy beachfront to the water.Being close to the ferry dock was not a problem, perhaps a little distracting at times, but no problem. There wasn't any fuel leaking into the ocean or anything like that to cause someone not to go in the water to swim.My wife and I stayed at the CP about a year ago (before thehurricanes) and we loved it. The rooms are large, clean, and eachhas a balcony overlooking the pool and beach. The hotel is just a fewminutes (and just a few hundred feet) from the village of Playa delCarmen.

We were often out in the evening until about 11 PM and felt safe on the streets in that neighborhood. The cable car is one block up. It was not easy finding breakfast in Chinatown but McDonalds was a block away. Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc. -- a new entity thatwill engage in new gambling activities and own and operate theTrump Plaza Hotel & Casino -- said it has filed for the 10million share offer with the Securities and ExchangeCommission. The company said the offering is expected to be priced atbetween $14 and $16 a share. The financing will raise cash to expand the Trump Plazaand finance the initial phase of a new gambling site in Gary,Ind., the company said. The stock offering marks Trump's first step to cash in onhis Atlantic City properties only a few years after he wasforced to place them in bankruptcy to settle their debts. Atthe time, he sold off or granted stakes to creditors. Just a week ago, a Trump organisation executive told NewJersey regulators the group would soon file federal documentsregarding plans for ``public participation'' in some of itscasino operations. The official, Nicholas Ribis, said they would relate to afinancial restructuring of the Trump Plaza and also wouldinvolve the Trump Regency hotel in Atlantic City and other,non-New Jersey casino assets. The Trump Regency is currently owned by Chemical Bank,although Trump holds an option to repurchase it and somesecured debt for $60 million.
