The hotels consideredupscale by New York City standards that are located near Central Parkwill likely be more than $300/night, and remember, occupancy taxes inNYC are very high.The best travel bargain out there for upscale hotels is bidding for ahotel room through Priceline. I host a forum to discuss bidding (I amin no way affiliated with the company) atWhen using Priceline (or Expedia's Hotel Price Matcher), you cannotspecify Central Park, but rather one of the zones as defined onPriceline's website. During periods of low to moderate occupancy, it'svery common to get a 4 star in Manhattan, through Priceline or Expedia'sHotel Price Matcher, for $100-$150/night, depending on the days of theweek.I spent a weekend at the Hotel Casablanca just off Times Square and it wasfabulous. I felt so spoiled. Paid about $260 per night for 2 people, andthat includes Continental breakfast and evening wine & cheese spread (livemusic on Fridays). Just the nicest people you could imagine; I'll be up inNYC in April and couldn't think of staying elsewhere. Check it out:

I would guess youcould get a room there for $140 or less, particularly in light ofcurrent circumstances in the travel industry.I stayed there last month and can recommend it on the basis ofservice, amenities (in regard to its price category) and location. Theroom rate includes a continental breakfast consisting of eitheroatmeal or cold cereal (both were never put out on the same day when Istayed there), bagels, muffins, toaster waffles, fruit, coffee andchoice of juice (apple or orange).The hotel is around the corner from The Dakota. Columbus Avenue, atthe opposite end of the block from Central Park, offers a variety ofrestaurants, including a Turkish restaurant on the corner of West 71stand Columbus and the City Grill (loved their roast turkey) on Columbusbetween W 71st and W 72nd.
new york city hotels : I wonder if anyone can help with details of a web site listing hotels in NewYork City, but detailing the hotels e-mail address, assuming they have one.I'm thinking about taking a short break to the city in September, and as aflight+hotel package seems to be above my price range I thought I might bebetter of booking my own flight and then looking for a hotel. I have comeacross a few sites but they only detail the hotels telephone numbers. Iknow that the cost to call the US isn't expensive but I thought it would beeasier for me just to e-mail them to ask about their rates.Or if anyone can offer any suggestions then that would be great. On my last visit to New York I stayed at the Hotel Belnord, uparound 87th Street, and I liked this location. The last time I stayed thereit was booked through a web site so the cost was more than the £50 pricerange I am aiming for now, though I went during Easter. new york city hotels : I am new to the forum and am looking to visit New York in earlyNovember.I have narrowed my choice of hotels down to two, WJ and Howard Johnsonmidtown. WJ looks nice and modern but the Howard Johnson has largerrooms and a restaurant. Can anyone give me any advice on which hotelis better?Also is this a good area to stay in? or would I be better off somewhereelse - I was also looking at the Empire and Holiday Inn Midtown whichare nearer to Central Park.I am hoping to book in the next couple of days so would be very greatfulfor any advice anyone could give me.You mean the Washington Jefferson? Evidently it's undergone quite atransformation -- from a budget shared-bath facility in the late '90sto a midrange full-service hotel today. Alas, I can't provide apersonal recommendation on either one. Back when the WashingtonJefferson was a budget shared-bath hotel, I always stayed at itscompetitor, The Habitat on East 57th. But The Habitat has remainedbudget shared-bath while evidently the Washington Jefferson has movedupscale, based on its Web site: Trivia: The Washington Jefferson was featured in one scene of WoodyAllen's "Small Time Crooks."
