If you stay there,give the general manager, Malcolm Hendrey, my regards.Hotels in Paris are less expensive, generally, than the equivalentin London. Most 2-star hotels will serve nicely and cost under$100. E.g., I've stayed at the Sansonnet in the 3rd arr. for about 400FF(about $75). For a little more money, a 3-star hotel will havea few more amenities and somewhat larger rooms, and you can staywithin your budget. Sandra Gustufsan's book "Cheap Sleeps in Paris"is helpful, and reliable, even if she does seem - IMO :) - a bitfixated on making sure the curtains match the bedspreads. I'vefound her books helpful. (I think it's always interesting to knowwhat other writers read.) Word of mouth from a friend, if the friendis reliable and has the same tastes, can be a good guide.

Lovelyspacious studio in a quiet building in a convenient area, and willstay there again next time I'm in the city if it's available.(Sigh) Wish I knew when that would be.
hotels paris : I seem to be very confused with exchange rates and some sites postingwhat i think are high rates for a room. I am arriving in Paris on Mar29 for 7 nights. I will be with to young children. I was hoping tohave private bath and not pay more than $55. US dollars. I dont expectthe "Ritz" but a clean place to stay. Anybody have any suggestions frompast hotels.I have no preference what are i want to stay. I will be using publictransporation. I dont want to spend all my time traveling to and fromdestinations. Thus not a place far from socity. Also I would apreciate comments onexperiences during Year 2000 New Year.You might look in the 16th Arrondisemont (Passy-Auteuil). This is asomewhat chi-chi neighbourhood, just across the river from the Tower. Youcan probably find someplace with a good view much easier here. Check Jack'ssite for info on the 16th and hotels.Best WEstern has a property, Trocardero (there are two with similar names)the right one, and the reservation service will know which one, has views ofthe tower from it more expensive roomsI am searching for the same. I plan to Travel in Dec 1st week. I founda Hilton has effiel view. Except forthe "palaces" which "tournent à plein régime". The George V had a 96.5%occupancy rate up from the July rate of 85%.The overall occupany rate for the city was 74% for July and was down inAugust by 3-4 points.The expected 2001 number of visitors to Paris will be 26 million (over80 million for the country, up 12% from last year). Of the visitorsthey will have spent 16 million night stays in hotels.As for room prices, the average room has been going for 1,200 francs (183euros, which is about 90% of a dollar). That average surprises me sinceI got a nice room in a ** for my nephew and his wife in July for less than500 francs (it was below $50 a night). But the "average" averages in thehigh price places, like 4000 francs a night at the Ritz.Paris is 9th internationally. NY are cited at 318 euros and London at263, with Rome at 204. The article mentions that for ** hotels Parisis 15th at 300 francs, or 46 euros. In fact, this price would notbe found for the ** in the inner arrondissements. But one can findquite cheap modern hotels just exterior to the city limits. These are notas much fun since one has to take the metro to the center of the city, whichis generally a 15 minute or more ride.
