hotels in paris : If you have any questions that you think I might be able toanswer, feel free to let me know -- From: ()Subject: Re: Hotels in Paris Newsgroups: Date: 1999/09/04 We stayed in a Best Western which was only 5 minutes from Champs Elysee andthe metro. Very pleasant.Actually finding a hotel in Paris is related to air travel becauseunless these postings are coming from France you need to board a planeto get there. I recommend the hotel de castiglione on the rue du fabourgst.honore in the 8th adr.Why be such a curmudgeon? People who fly usually have to stay somewhere oncethey land, unless they are like the guy who lived in the terminal at CDG for 13years. What better place to ask than in a newsgroup full of frequent flyers? How about a newsgroup full of discussion of travel *in Europe*? Theentire point of having separate newsgroups is to allow people to post to a group as closely focused as possible. As a simple example, this group has lots of discussion of air travelwithin North America; someone who's never been to Paris won't have anyuseful suggestions on Paris hotels. Someone who lives in, say, Brussels and takes the train to Paris twice a year may not read r.t.a but wouldbe much more likely to know about hotels in Paris, and presumablydiscusses them in rec.travel.europe.

hotels in paris : On re-reading it, it sounds more curmudgeonly than intended. What Imeant was:1. In the 2 years or so I've been monitoring rec.travel.air, I've seenlittle or no discussion of hotels, particularly hotels in Paris, so Idon't think this is a very good ng to post the question.2. Rec.travel.europe has some incredibly knowledgable people, including Parisians, who, on a daily basis, make detailed hotelrecommendations, so that would be a better place to post. Inparticular, there's a Parisian named Jack whose English is impeccableand knowledge of Paris, its attractions, restaurants and hotels, ofincredible depth.3. Saying "what's a good place to stay in Paris," without more detailis like saying, "I want to eat out -- what's a good food to eat?"Paris is an enormous city, with incredible diversity in terms of typesand costs of accomodation. Also, its subway system is quite large andgoes, more or less, everywhere, so merely saying, "near the Metro,"doesn't provide enough information to make a recommendation. Does thepost like art museums, famous monuments, quaint non-touristyneighborhoods, proximity to the Seine, to the Rive Gauche, to Pigalle,to the airport, the train station (and which one)? How much does theposter want to spend -- are we talking a YMCA budget, or an unlimitedone? Without knowing what the poster wants to see, it is impossible tomake a meaningful recommendation. That's why . . .

hotels in paris : 4. Buying (or borrowing) a good travel guide is the best place tostart. Read a bit about Paris, find out what sounds interesting andwhat doesn't. Once the "must sees" are decided on, it becomesrelatively easy to narrow potential locations. And . . . tell us howmuch you want to spend. The Paris Marriott on the Champs Elysee costsa minimum of $350/night (we get to stay there free because of theMarriott Rewards points we've accumulated this year). I'm told it'svery nice. Last year we stayed at a 3-star hotel on the Left Bank; theroom was small (and the bathroom tiny), but it was clean, veryPaul Tauger typed a less-curmudgeonly explanation of why r.t.a is not the place to ask for advice on hotels..First, Paul, you're correct - rec.travel.europe is a far better forum to ask the question. It certainly helped me on my last trip! However, one does not have to be too much of a detective to surmise that the original poster:1) was interested in a relative bargain (people who can afford the Ritz don't ask questions on newsgroups..)2) needed a place with an elevator (due to her mother), which would eliminate many of the charming smaller hotels that require you to take the stairs

hotels in paris : I've been researching various hotels and fromcomparing three different guide books and manyweb sites, the following list of possibilitieshas emerged for me. I'm looking for the $75-$130range (US Dollars).Does anyone have any experience (good or bad)with any of these hotels/B&B's in London?Regent PalaceBarkston GardensHotel Ibis EustonMentone HotelArosfa HotelRidgemount HotelAlahambra HotelAbbey House HotelAbbey CourtThistle EustonCommodoreMontagueAmber HotelTavistockFor Paris, my research hasn't narrowed down the list at all. Anysuggestions. A friend recommended La Louisianne. Any one else haveexperience with it?I have used both of the above. Barkston Gardens is certainly moreupscale ( AND more expensive) than the Ibis Euston. I prefer theBarkston but sometimes stay at the Ibis for proximity to Euston Stationand trips north.Ibis is a cookie cutter place but clean -- reasonably priced -- and in agood location if you are training out of Euston during your trip.Try the Burns around the corner from the Earls Court tube stop. Falls inyour price range, its clean and near restaurants, bookstores, pubs, etc.Stayed there. A single bed is fine if you are under 6 ft. tall. Also goto and click on BHRC link.Search there. They have great prices, previews and info on each hotel.

hotels in paris : For Paris, check our for a roundtripfare with Hotel, 1 and 2 day packages are very reasonable. These two hotels are among the 20 on our Recommended list in"London for Lovers" which will be in print before the end ofFebruary <>.The Montague (I presume you mean the "Montague on the Gardens" near the British Museum) will be above your $130 range. Changethe $ to GBP and you're OK. Lovely place. The Commodore hasjust done some significant refurbishing and has some lovelyVictorian decor in part of the hotel. It is repositioning itselffrom a business orientation to a leisure one. It has rooms inseveral price raanges. If you stay there, give the general manager, Malcolm Hendrey, my regards.Hotels in Paris are less expensive, generally, than the equivalentin London. Most 2-star hotels will serve nicely and cost under$100. E.g., I've stayed at the Sansonnet in the 3rd arr. for about 400FF(about $75). For a little more money, a 3-star hotel will havea few more amenities and somewhat larger rooms, and you can staywithin your budget. Sandra Gustufsan's book "Cheap Sleeps in Paris"is helpful, and reliable, even if she does seem - IMO :) - a bitfixated on making sure the curtains match the bedspreads. I'vefound her books helpful. (I think it's always interesting to knowwhat other writers read.) Word of mouth from a friend, if the friendis reliable and has the same tastes, can be a good guide.

If you are looking for hotels in paris , I have found the best place on the Internet for all hotels is Expedia.com. Apparently if you book now you will save up to 70% on hotels worldwide.
