I'd think that Martinsville would have lowerticket prices, but then again, I never consider prices a determiningfactor.Bristol is a great experience, especially the night race in August-but thetickets are sold out and the only way to get one is to wait until closer totime and find someone selling theres, be willing to pay a scalper, or find apackage deal that includes tickets. The Bristol tickets start at about $85face value and go up from there. Rooms are hard to get and expensive, but therace is worth every cent you spend.Martinsville is a little slower but they usually have seats. In fact they usedto sell 10000 tickets on the backstretch on raceday-don't know if they stilldo. You may have to stay a couple of hours away from the track to find aroom-Martinsville isn't a real big place. One of the Martinsville races is a NoBull race this year so that would add to the excitement. Either track would bea great experience.Good luck.
hotels in bristol : I have been to both and here is what I can tell you.First Bristol: If you weren't planning on camping do so now. No hotels within 100miles available. If you don't have tickets start calling in December or you willlose out. The Busch race is real expensive in comparison to some other tracks asis qualifying. Parking is a bear unless you get there real early. I got to thetrack at about 9:30 and parked out on the main highway 2 1/2 miles down from thetrack. I left the cooler in the car. I went in April and it was a comfortabletemperature with a nice breeze kicked up from the track. As far as the racing youcan't beat it. I was in awe from Friday til Sunday. And there is nary a bad seatthere. I highly recommend it if you have never been.Martinsville: I have been five times and love it. Great seats for $55-$60 can behad a month before the race. You should still be able to get a hotel within 50 orso miles. Parking is great. Free on track for all three days and plenty of offtrack parking within decent walking distance. Both races the temperature is quitecomfortable. April is kind of iffy sometimes. One time it was in the 80's and justlast April it was overcast and in the low 60's. The racing is not as action packedas Bristol but it is a blast just the same. One thing about Martinsville is thatis it a very fan friendly track. The workers are polite, the facilities are verynice. Plenty of restaurants and shopping real close by. I would recommend it aswell as Bristol. One thing though. Keep you open beer in the track. Martinsvilleis in a dry county. If the local law sees an open container while walking outsidethe track you will be pouring it out. hotels in bristol : Which track you go to is your choice. I love them both but personally I have andwill make more return visits to Martinsville.Well, forget Bristol... it's SOLD OUT. I've been to Martinsville and it'sFANTASTIC - and seating is reasonably priced .. $60.00 ea. but get 'emwhile you can and book your hotel early. Word of caution.. stay away fromRamada Inns... I had a bad experience with them this year.I just went to both tracks this year on back to back weekends. It wasmy second time to Bristol and I got seats in the Allison terrace sectionwhich was great. Most of the seats look like they have a good view any-way. Since the race was sold out I had to pay about $20 over face valuebut got the tickets a month early from a for sale ticket post on the web. Istill thought it was worth it. The track is very noisy so have earplugs or adecent radio headset if you don't have one already. Lots of action and con-stant passing with a few wrecks. Hotels were hard to get close to the trackso we stayed in Gatlinburg(about 90 miles away) for 5 days which was wortha visit anyway. Sevierville and Piegon Forge also have plenty of hotels if youcan't find anything closer and seemed reasonable. If you don't get to the trackearly you may have to walk a good distance or park in one of the shuttle lotswhich is what we did and that was not bad for us but leaving requires somepatience. If you get tickets, Bristol is a great place to see a race even if youpaya little more. Martinsville was also great and I ordered tickets from their web site in Dec.for the April race and the seats were on the front stretch on row 62 for around$65. I parked off the track in a private yard for $10 across the street and avoid- hotels in bristol : ed a lot of the traffic leaving by going out a back way. What I really liked aboutMartinsville was a grocery store within walking distance to get food and beveragesupplies and not get marked up. There was also a few fast food places right nearthe grocery store and also a Lowes that you could park in for a fee. The trackwas not as noisy as Bristol since it was more open but still helps to have the earprotection. Got a hotel in Greensboro for around $70 and it was about 50 milesfrom the track and made my reservation 4 months in advance. I really enjoyedwatching the race last year as Andretti slowly closed in to take the lead and getthe win. Lots of baking in the corners so it's a good drivers track. If you are looking to go cheaper I think Martinsville is the better option andwithgood planning you can get tickets and hotels. Bristol will be more work if youneedto get tickets but it is an awesome race experience if you can. If I choose to goto either again I will go back to Martinsville but Richmond is next on my list. These are my opinions and my differ from others but both are worth a visit.Good luck. hotels in bristol : It is rumoured that there used to be hotel in Bristol called theMauritania - it contained a number of rooms panelled in the originalstyle of the famous ship of that name. Does anyone know what the hotelis called now and if it still has the panelled rooms please. Thanks -Chris B.Still called the Mauritania, not a hotel, still has panelled rooms, still at the Bottom of Park Street. Can't remember what it's called Now. Don't think it's a hotel. Used to bemore like a br-othel... Just up from the centre up Park Street on the left.Last time I was there it was still called the Mauritania but was a NightClub kind of thing for the Old and desperates of the City. : ¬((Bodybuilding and sports nutrition for the discerning athlete)(Polar HRM's, Free weights, Benches, Power racks, Manta-Rays....)(Bodybuilding and sports nutrition for the discerning athlete)(Polar HRM's, Free weights, Benches, Power racks, Manta-Rays....)Its called the Met Bar now, still at bottom of Park street adj. to theCouncil House, opp Unity Street. In the late 60s, they opened an establishment called theBier Keller in the basement of the building. The entrancewas around the corner in St George's Rd. It served steinsof German lager and became a notorious boozing-dive andknocking-shop. I used to deliver the linen there first thingin the morning ...before they'd got around to clearing up thedebris of the previous night. The puddles of vomit and littleparties of cockroaches which went scuttling out of the lightas you opened the door have been an abiding memory forme.
