hotels in amsterdam : Would those be the apartments on Lijnbaansgracht, just off the Leidseplein? If so, I like them, but the stairs are a bit of a bugger.[0] This is silly, I have yet to find a non gay-friendly hotel in AMS, someof the clientele maybe.[1] Maybe for my 35th birthday which is, AFAIK, about the same times asMistress Thomas' 40th. Grand or Amstel, Lyn?[2]Amstel. The Grand is where Michael Jackson ended up when hecouldn't get a room in the Amstel. We have stayed at the Aero (Kerkstraat) several times which was basicand as well as being in a fairly good location for bars, shopping, saunas etc. Last time we stayed in the American Hotel which cost a lot more but wasin a different class altogether and, when I'm over in November we shallprobably stay there again. It had a nice lift so no more staggering upstairs. And why did you decide to change my words, and pretend thatthey were mine?Well, I wouldn't fancy going anywhere that Miss Jackson inhabited.Looks at price of room in Guide Michelin. Shudders slightly. I'll wait untilnext time I get a bonus I think. The Europe (Hotel de l'Europe) is quite posh, is very centrally located, and there's a delicious boy working there.
hotels in amsterdam : I will be visiting Amsterdam in a few weeks on business.Although my company will pay for a particular u.s. based chainaffiliate, I may prefer to stay somewhere else. Could anyone recommend a guide-book with accurateassessments of hotels, or perhaps a hotel inwhich frompersonal experience, was found to be a nice spot. To everyone who responded, I have had a wonderful response to my query concerning hotels in AMS. Thanks to all who took the time to answer. Moreover, It seems the airline has told me the entire aircraft is booked very heavily on a midweek transatlantic flight in the middle of winter. Sounds like a most enjoyable 10 hours to me. These would be: hotels in amsterdam : Wiechmann, on the Prinsengracht, in a fine, refurbished canal-house, all rooms furnished to a very good standard of comfortAsterisk, in Dentexstraat, a little farther away from the centre, but handier for public transport than the Wiechmann; reasonably pricedTerdam, not very far from the big Marriott (speaking of US-based chains); actually, the Terdam, and some other Amsterdam hotels, are part of the AMS chain, which also does bookings through Best WesternThese hotels are smaller and a bit more personal, perhaps, than thebigger chain hotels. Check with the hotels for availability of certainservices such as clothes-laundry, though; big hotels charge extra forthis, but some small hotels may not have such services at all.(This file must be converted with BinHex 4.0)KGQ9XBfpY,Q0[E5&bBfpRBA4P,R*MEbj aBbjMB5&5CAT[EQ9d,QjPG#&ZCAGcDR9 ZDfPP,Q&ZFbjZCA3KF'KTE'&LFb& LE'&ZDf9d,QeTG(*P,QpbCb&KCf& dC5&ZCAGPG'eMD5jMEfdK498ZEQ9d)A0eEM4 ZE#&iFc4KE'`KGA0PEQ9d$8CbEfdk)#*3CA4 PFL"8,L"(Ef9ND'&bG#)J2(&qu ot;REf9ND'&b3(Kc0'&XE#jZE$i06Q9h FfGbEh9`FcSJFQ9M,R4bBACPE#jPGA*[F'808h9L DQ9MG$SJ8Q8k)&9bCf9ZG#%J)%K[G'9XFb&q uot;J-5i`$80[ER4PER3Y9(P`C6SJG'9iG#p`E'& amp;TEMXJBfKKFR0PG$eeFbeKFf0TD3e[E3ejk`! !:We were very pleased with the hotel Aalders in '92 (yes we picked it partly because it is the first listed in the guide book, but it was also quite a nice place). It is mid priced, a block from the Van Gogh museum, two blocks from Rijks Museum and Concertgebowe (and major tram lines). Plenty of places to eat close by.Calvin (using wife's ID). Once a year traveller. hotels in amsterdam : On an upcoming trip to Europe, I will have to spend one night in Amsterdam. My flight in arrives at 5:00 PM and my flight out the next day is at 1:00PM, so there is less than 24 hours. I did this last year (without making areservation in advance) and ended up at the Holiday Inn. Does anyone haveany suggestions on less expensive hotels/pensions near the railway stationin Amsterdam? If I were to stay closer to Schipol (not that Schipol is farfrom Amsterdam), are there any interesting one-night alternatives (smalltown inns, pensions, etc.)?+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-++ Jeremy Giddings Teknekron Communications Systems, Inc. Thishotel was north from the end of Prinzengracht, about 5-10 min from thestation. It was in a street parallel to the railway line, on a streetcorner. The street was the second(3.?) to the right if you follow the mainstreet south from the station. Quite easy, eh?Oh, I forgot to mention the name of the hotel. But the only thing I rememberis, that is was something like Camel, Caravan or Cabul. hotels in amsterdam : Two years are quite a long time,Peter--*** This .sig file has been censored by the USENET authorities ***(consider M-x recover-X-rated to get the uncensored stuff :-)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~P eter Lanius | It's not a trick -- it's a SONY ! Unfortuneately, we couldn't get into anything wecould afford, and we didn't like the ones we could. Hotel Acca wasrecommended but full. Hotel Museumlicht was about 100 guilders/night for a double, but it was spartan. From: ()Subject: Re: Help with hotels in Amsterdam Newsgroups: Date: 1992-09-03 00:20:40 PST I recommend Haarlem. It's a 30 min train ride north of Schipol and a 30 mintrain ride from Amsterdam. It's a quaint and picturesque Dutch town and has atourist office to the right of the train station as you exit it. However, almost certainly it will be closed by the time you get there. Not to worry, there are inexpensive hotels in the area. Probably someone at the bus depot(opposite the train station) could direct you. We stayed at the HotelCarillon, turn left out the door of the station, go to the left most end, turnright, walk about 2 blocks. Anyway, Haarlem has a fascinating town squaresurrounded by old buildings. As well, there is an interesting cathedral. There are canals for cruising but I don't believe you'll have that much time.We caught the train at Schipol (our flight arrived at 6pm) and were in Haarlemby 7. There is a train change about half way but the train people will tellyou about that. Trains to Haarlem seem to be about every 30 min. Trains fromHaarlem to Amsterdam seem to be the same.
