The Grand is where Michael Jackson ended up when hecouldn't get a room in the Amstel.We have stayed at the Aero (Kerkstraat) several times which was basicand as well as being in a fairly good location for bars, shopping,saunas etc. Last time we stayed in the American Hotel which cost a lot more but wasin a different class altogether and, when I'm over in November we shallprobably stay there again. It had a nice lift so no more staggering upstairs.And why did you decide to change my words, and pretend thatthey were mine?Well, I wouldn't fancy going anywhere that Miss Jackson inhabited.Looks at price of room in Guide Michelin. hotels in amsterdam : On an upcoming trip to Europe, I will have to spend one night in Amsterdam. My flight in arrives at 5:00 PM and my flight out the next day is at 1:00PM, so there is less than 24 hours. I did this last year (without making areservation in advance) and ended up at the Holiday Inn. Does anyone haveany suggestions on less expensive hotels/pensions near the railway stationin Amsterdam? Thishotel was north from the end of Prinzengracht, about 5-10 min from thestation. It was in a street parallel to the railway line, on a streetcorner. The street was the second(3.?) to the right if you follow the mainstreet south from the station. Quite easy, eh?Oh, I forgot to mention the name of the hotel. But the only thing I rememberis, that is was something like Camel, Caravan or Cabul.

As well, there is an interesting cathedral.There are canals for cruising but I don't believe you'll have that much time.We caught the train at Schipol (our flight arrived at 6pm) and were in Haarlemby 7. There is a train change about half way but the train people will tellyou about that. Trains to Haarlem seem to be about every 30 min. Trains fromHaarlem to Amsterdam seem to be the same.
