hotel reservation : . . . AND???? shows up and spends the night then leaves, leaving behindthe processed bill as payment? doesn't show and succeeds in convincing the======================================== ===========================To: Matt and the groupFrom: Julius Koble, ex-hotel front desk employee\manager and ex- law studentIs a hotel reservation a binding contract?Yes of course it is. The real issues revolve around the extent of theduties and rights of the hotel reservation contract. In practice hotelsdivide reservations into three categories. The first category is composed of reservations that will be canceled by thehotel at certain time, usually 4 or 6 p.m. These are commonly called 4 of6pm holds in hotel front desk jargon. These reservations are the leastsecure from the potential lodgers viewpoint. The potential guest providesno billing information for the hotel. The guest agrees to arrive at thehotel by the certain time and the hotel agrees to "hold" the room untiltypically 6 p.m. When the time for arrival has occurred and the potentialguest has not arrived, the hotel "cancels" the reservation, and thecontract between the potential guest and the hotel is extinguished. If thepotential guest arrives after the cutoff time, the hotel will rent a room tothe potential guest if any rooms are available and not designated toguaranteed or advance deposit reservations. The second reservation type is called a guaranteed reservation. In this typeof reservation the potential guest provides a means of billing to the hotelfor the room charge if the potential guest does not arrive. Typically thisis a credit card number or an agreement to allow direct billing for the roomcharge. The hotel guarantees the availability of a room for this type ofreservation until the next cycle (typically noon the next day) for rentingrooms begins. The hotel will have a policy for accepting cancellations fromthe holder of a guaranteed reservation. Many times the cancellation deadline
hotel reservation : We used the service "France Hotel Reservation" at to check the availability of a roomat a Paris hotel. We received a response that the hotel was fully bookedbut that this service would find a "comparable" hotel and make reservationsfor us. We e-mailed back to say we weren't interested in substitutions andthat we'd make our own alternative arrangements. We have since received"confirmation" of a booking of not one--but TEN--rooms for a date on whichwe won't even be in Paris (and certainly didn't request one, much less ten, rooms for), PLUS a "nonrefundable commission" of almost US$100. We haveexchanged numerous e-mails with this service asking them to investigate theerror and halt all charges, only to receive one sentence responses to theeffect that they plan to charge us, regardless. Of course we have notifiedour credit card issuer to deny the charges as this increasingly appears tobe fraudulent in nature. While this may well be an isolated occurrence oran error due to language barriers, I'd recommend taking caution whendeciding whether to use this service. If in fact the service does havedifficulty with the English language they ought not be responding to oure-mails in English, much less attempting to charge exhorbinant amounts toour credit card before seeking clarification or translation. Also, theentire website is in English, so go figure....) To illustrate, below is asampling of our correspondence to date: hotel reservation : **France Hotel Reservation Service (Initial response to booking request)**Thank you for your booking and yourinterest in our webside France HotelReservation and Paris HotelReservationWe try to find you another htoel inthe same quality and if possible inthe same aera. ABOUT THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER, (7-8 WEEKS AFTER MY RESERVATION WAS CONFIRMED) MY TRAVEL AGENT CALLED AND ASKED IF I WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE UP MY ROOM IN DAYTONA IN EXCHANGE FOR A ROOM IN COCO BEACH FL, WITH THE FIRST NIGHT BEING FREE. I SAID NO AND THAT I WANTED TO STAY IN DAYTONA. LAST WEEK THE TRAVEL AGENT CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT THE HOTEL IS NOT GOING TO HONOR THE CONFIRMED RESERVATION BUT WAS GOING TO SEND ME TO COCO BEACH ANYWAY - DUE TO BEING OVERBOOKED.
