Available at Travel Bookstores, or from the author (email for information).re your request for washington hotelwhy spend that much? we have just returned from a great trip to the states only yesturday(friday) and whilst in washington stayed at the econolodge at nationalairportthey have a free bus shuttle to pentagan city metro stop and from therewe took the yellow line tube to l'enfant plaza a $1.10 fare (each way)and were within a 3/4 minute stroll to the smithsonian on the mall.whilst at the lodge - free car parking - no hastle - good basiceconolodge serviceDO NOT expect hilton or sheraton standards, accept econo for what it is the room was clean / 2 beds / bathroom / tv, in other words - normal.- bloody good value for money !we only paid $39.00 plus taxes. saw a coupon in one of those freebies wepicked up in a petrol station on I.95in fact we stayed there twice - once on the way down to viginia beachfor 1 night and then on the way back for 5 nights - they gave us thesame rate for both trips! as i said accept econo for what it is - wecertainly enjoyed our stay there and would recomend it for Value formoney at $39/00 who wouldn't !!!!mike and toni - now back on the Isle of Man.its thats rock in the middle of the Irish sea. check it on your atlas!

hotel new york : I posted a message previously inquiring about The New York Inn, and someone recommended the Portland Square Hote to me. I made a reservation for thePortland Square, but since then I have heard two negative opinions.The first was from a 61st St Precinct Transit police officer who works theTimes Square area, who said he knows that they rent rooms to hookers, and hesuggested I not stay there.And the other is from an AOL travel board, part of a trip report of a woman whojust returned from a NY visit 2 days ago.Some comments from her report:The scary was getting stuck between 8th and 9th floors in the hotel, having noventilation working in the elevator and having to call 911 on the cell phone asthe alarms in the elevator were broken.. This is the point when I should say toyou all, if you ever stay in NYC, DO NOT stay at the Portland Square Hotel.They gave me none of the messages or faxes that were sent and they told thosewho called that I had checked out on Saturday and left New York City. I didnot check out until Monday. The sheets on the bed were dry rotted and had holesin them. I stripped them off and took them downstairs. They remade my bed andwhen I got in it, there were more sheets with holes in them. There was no iceduring my five day stay nor did any vending machines work. I would notrecommend it to an enemy. It was the Hades Hotel, IMHO.
hotel new york : So, in light of this I would love to hear from others who have stayed there"recently". There are quite a few comments re the hotel on the Google search Idid, but most of the ones I saw are 2-7 years old comments.I stayed at Portland Square in 99/2000 as an alternative to a hostel for afew days. You really get what you pay for, and for less than $100 a night,and a few steps from Times Square, that is not very much.p.s. (They did make a mess of my reservation by charging my VISA when theytold me that this was only to hold the room, and i could choose my paymenton arrival)I go to NYC once or twice a year and have stayed at the Portland Sq for the past 8years or so and have never had a bad stay.I've never seen hookers in the hotel or, even, on the street. The hotel doesn'tallow unregistered guests to go up to the rooms and you have to be "buzzed in" inthe evening, so it's not likely that hookers are sneaking in. Although, I guessit's possible to bribe an employee to look the other way. But, like I said, I'venever seen anyone that looked like a hooker in the hotel.
