I'll state it here as an argument which assumes the following: if one is going to write a song promoting satanism one is going to cast it, or whatever image or metaphor one is using to represent it, in a positive light. With that in mind listen to the song and consider the following argument: Either Hotel California is a song that promotes satanism or it isn't. Now, if Hotel California is not about satanism, then it isn't a song promoting satanism (since it is irrelevant to it) and we can all look for other bogeymen hiding in the shadows. On the other hand, if Hotel California is about satanism, then it is *not* promoting it but rather warning against it. Clearly, from the perspective of storyteller, the Hotel California is a trap: it looks great on the outside but once you get in "you can never leave" even if you find yourself "running for the door." So, I conclude that Hotel California is not a song that promotes satanism.
