hotel booking : However, the hotel is also saying that, since the two rooms areunavailable, so is the offer, and that if I want the remaining threerooms, it will have to be at their individual room rates, which comesto substantially more than the offer price for booking the entire wingof five rooms. As an alternative, they're offering to transfer the booking to threedeluxe (better) rooms in another, non exclusive, part of the hotel, but still at the same rate as they now want to charge me for the roomsin the private wing (ie not at the rate I originally booked)At the moment, I haven't confirmed anything, and would prefer to relyon persuading them of their moral obligations rather than threateninglegal issues. But if necessary, do I have a case for insisting thatthey honour the original contracted rate? Its my belief that there's acontract in place, in the same way that a restaurant booking is acontract; there's certainly offer and acceptance, but I'm not surewhat the consideration is.Yes, there is a contract which they are obliged to honour, and they appearto be in breach or anticipatory breach. You can insist that you shouldn'tpay more than the rate that was agreed and that you should have theexclusive area that was agreed, and you would have to decide whether, ifthey refuse, you should pay the extra and then sue for it back, or take thenon-exclusive part and then sue for general damages for disappointment. Theconsideration is the sum you agreed to pay, and it doesn't matter that theyhadn't yet taken payment from your card. Consideration is rarely a problemexcept where you are given a prize such as a free holiday.

I'd say that I am paying under protest andthat they are in breach of contract and that I intend to pursue a countycourt action to recover the excess payment.I think it is unlikely that they would do that so long as you were quietlyfirm and polite rather than angry, but the answer then would be that theyare in breach of contract and that you intend to book another hotel and thenclaim loss of bargain and compensation for disappointment and for diminutionin value of a holiday. On Fri, 16 May 2003 17:51:42 +0100, "The Todal" wrote:Thanks again. It provided me with all the information I needed when Icalled the hotel General Manager direct and informed him of thesituation. After a bit of bluster, he became most apologetic andagreed to honour the original rate. I suppose I'm still paying the same rate for three rooms that I wasoriginally paying for five, but since I was only intending to usethree of them anyway, I guess I shouldn't be too greedy!Even though no payment was taken? Why? I have the Kodak mis-pricing thing in mind at the moment. hotel booking : Sorry for the Third post by I was eve more tired this morning!I have been asked to develop an Access DB for tracking bookings in a longstay carpark. This is similar to hotel booking ie. allocating, reserving and billing. If possible I don't want to reinvent the wheel. If any body as some thingsimilar please let me know asap. Obviously remuneration is expected to begiven. From: ()Subject: Re: Wanted Hotel booking DB!! Even ifyou HAD misspelt it ! <G> I need some fud and grosherees and kloze as muchas the next person.Perhaps the gurus here could tell us if there's a spot online, though, forquestions such as yours. We do seem to have multiple requests here foravailable programs, and I wonder whether there's a website or someplace forsuch requests to be submitted ... and responded to, yay or nay.Good Idea!!! I really don't know of any, exactly. Tony Toews has a _very_good list of Access Accounting Programs. Various other sites contain asmattering of example databases of varoius kinds. Beyond accounting, acentralized resource for other types of canned/available Access programsseems woefully lacking. If someone else knows of one, let us all know.By the way, if anyone finds a good Hotel Booking program, let me know. Lastyear we stayed in a charming little hotel (11 rooms) in Venice Italy and thestay was absolutely delightful but watching them do all of their booking andbilling in Excel made me VERY nervous. Since we plan on going back...... hotel booking : I have a problem that has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now, and Iwould be so grateful to those that can help me sort this one out.The majority of my database is complete apart from one problem. In a tableI have a number of people staying at 2 different hotels. I know that theyarrive at a certain dat i.e 24/apr/99 and leave on the 27/apr/99. What Iwant my database to work out is the number of nights that would be. In thisinstance it is 3 nights that a person would stay in the hotel.Another problem is that each person might be staying in a single double ortwin bedroom.I would then like to add all these nights up. This should be too much of aproblem though, as I have already a fair idea of how to do this. You need at least the following tables and relationships tocreate the database you describe:---------------------------------------- -------------------Client table: ClientID AutoNumber Primary KeyRoomRate HotelID Number (Long) Relates to Hotel.HotelID RoomTypeID Number (Long) Relates to RoomType.RoomTypeID NightRate Currency Amount hotel charges for room type.Booking table: BookingID AutoNumber Primary Key ClientID Number (Long) Relates to Client.ClientID HotelID Number (Long) Relates to Hotel.HotelID RoomTypeID Number (Long) Relates to RoomType.RoomTypeID DateIn Date/Time Date booking begins DateOut Date/Time Date booking ends. AmountDue Currency Amount to be paid. AmountPaid Currency Amount already paid.----------------------------------- ------------------------
