halifax hotels : This is a serious business. NS is sick, we have the highest percapita deptin Canada, etc.. We need to somehow tackle these deficits (provincial andmunicipal) and ultimately the overall accumulated debt. I think they coulddo a number of things besides the cuts that they are proposing. If it took30 years to get in this mess, why does it need to take 3 years to get out ofit! Maybe we need longer term planning, however that may be hard to do whenyour only in the job for 5 years.No one want's these kind of changes, however, not changing things will paintthe exact scenario you describe. I wouldn't change my vote, I went intothis eyes wide open. I don't feel hoodwinked or lied too. The problem tome is clear, we need sink or swim, the pool bar is closed. halifax hotels : But, let's start by selling the Lieutenant Governor's Mansion, and canning thestaff there, get rid of freebie cars for our elected officials, pay them mileageto use THEIR OWN cars, use Internet technologies that would cut down on thenumber of trips to Halifax our elected officials need to make, etc!!There are millions of ways to streamline our government without bleeding theaverage TAX PAYING Nova Scotian to death! Our brain-dead politicians seem toneed all of the travel expenses, fancy lunches/dinners at high priced Halifaxestablishments, accommodations at overpriced Halifax Hotels, etc!!! It is time (And has been for many years) for our elected officials to tempertheir tastes to what is affordable for Nova Scotia and our economy. I for one amvery tired of the excesses that our elected officials seem to feel is theirbirthright!!! Enough, is Enough!! Excellent. That's the kind of thing we need to start thinking about. Anickle here, a nickle there, It'll all add up.I agree with most of your ideas Bill. Government officials seem tobelieve they are entitled to live as the elite do.
halifax hotels : Can you understand why a sitting member is also receiving a pensionof $61,000 annually for the job he is still working on. They have arule that a member must start receiving their retirement pension whenthey turn 69 whether they are retired or not. Is this acceptable inany other job? I've not heard of it and even if it does happensomewhere it is just ridiculous.Unfortunately, even if we did streamline government as you suggest itwould only be peanuts in the big picture. I don't know how much suchimprovements would save but I think it is well short of $500 millionannually. Still, it's a good start.Now Now, Jane has a Drug problem tahe it easy on her. She may have beenhigh on something when she made those comments.I don't feel she has made too much of a total idiot of herself with thoseuneducated comments. It just proves that a person may say stupid things whenthey are high. And we also must remember the short term memory loss alsoassociated with drug abuse. She may not even remember her comments. Whyshould we deny her the right to a Gov't pension by calling for herresignation, how else will she support a drug habit in retirement? for a different outlook on Canada!

Why dont you just try to jam two cars inone parking spot, good luck in getting out. Some people have the answers toeverything, and some think they do. Go back to primary, obviously you werepushed through.Try to think beyond the end of your nose, if that isn't too much of achore. Assume the class size is changed, perhaps by making 2 roomsout of one. That wouldn't be difficult in many cases.And just to reassure you, I wasn't thinking this was the answer toanything, just a question. Finally, I'm from a generation where youweren't pushed through. Unlike your group we had to advance bysuccessful completion of our studies, not by simply showing up. Tryagain, only this time use a bit of your brain, even if just thepartical that actually functions.

And the Tall Ships are only in town for six daysat Halifax. It is not the first time here that overblown predictionslike this have failed to come true.
