dublin hotels : Would appreciate any tips for special places anyone has stayed at inDublin, hotels also. Thanks, V.C. What opinions does anyone have on these two hotels in Dublin. I am a middle age woman traveling alone. The Buswells Hotel and Blooms Hotel. Thanks, Mary "Carpe diem !"Mary - I don't know the Blooms or Buswells hotels, but I stayedat one of the Jury's hotels a couple of years ago and found itto be very nice. Jury's runs several hotels iun the center of Dublin. The one we stayed at was a new high rise. It didn'thav etthe character of some of the other places we stayed in Ireland, but it was very nice and not too expensive. If youare interested, I can probably dig up an address for you.I am going to be in Dublin for 4 days in Sept. I'm looking for arecommendation for a good mid to upper price range hotel or guesthouse.I would like to be very central to the Grafton St. area, also will bedoing family research at the National Archives on Bishop St. Thanks inadvance... Joyce McEachern at Langley B.C. CanadaProbably the Shelbourne a block or so off Grafton at 676-6471 or theWestbury, nearer to Grafton, at 679-1122 would do. These are A* hotels, very definitely high end. The Grafton Plaza (475-0888) is mid range. Rich
dublin hotels : You can find Ireland info at Travel World Ireland links and if there isanything missing, why not post a message at the billboard there. From Chicago you can fly direct non-stop to either Dublin or Shannon onAer Lingus. Your other choices are Delta or Continental connectingthrough Newark or JFK. You can only fly into Dublin or Shannon. Choiceshould be based on your touring itinerary as there’s no other reason forusing one or the other.B&Bs prices are generally the same throughout Ireland, except for Dublin(a bit to a lot higher) and all that are registered with Bord Failte andmembers of two major markeing groups are of fine quality.Any three-star hotel (or higher) will be excellent. Five-stars areterribly dear (as are most Dublin hotels regardless of rating, includingthe Clarence, whcih has nothing to distinguish it except being owned byU2).For hotels go to Irish Hotels Federation at <> orfor B&Bs go to Town & Country Homes Association at<> and Family Homes of Ireland at<> and search for what looks good to you.BTW: Strongly recommend Dan Dooley Rent-A-Car (1-800-331-9301); I’vefound them to be best for rates and service and after 25 years oftraveling in Ireland I don’t use anyone else. dublin hotels : Hello....My husband and I just returned from two weeks in Ireland...what agift! In Dingle, we stayed at The Old Mill House...50 IP a night - roomand hosts were incredible. Breakfast included and was perfect. We thenstayed at the Garnish House in Cork - again incredible - 40 IP a night.Third and final was a lovely place in Limerick - name escapes me at thistime...What wefound was that we preferred the guest houses as opposed to the B & B's.We were told by the tourist board and the owners that guest houses areheld to a certain set of standards. While this seemed very important tothem, all we noticed were rooms that were lovely, wonderful hosts and incrediblefood and service....Pubs were wonderfully fun. Had no problem navigatingShannon airport - ran into three or four couples who felt Dublin airportwas quite a mess. The only thing I could say negative about the trip wasthat the car rental person tried to change the rate on our rental car. Butwe had the quoted rate in writing and refused to pay a dime more...whenwe asked to call the main number for Alamo he agreed to the quoted priceand upgraded our car at no additional cost. I can't say enough about howthis trip affected me - it was almost spirtual. We started in the Connemararegion and worked our way through Dingle, Cork, Limerick and finally back toShannon. We decided we're going back next year in February...very fewtourists, easy to find lodging and weather (while not perfect) was betterthan we had back in Minnesota!I must comment that we then went on to London for three days and were quitedisappointed in the room we booked based on advice in the travel guides butI think this was because we had such wonderful rooms in Ireland! As statedin this newsgroup, the Tube was very easy to use and very convenient.Sorry for the length of this but still have a buzz from the trip! ;)Take care...ColetteCarolyn & Allen Oldham wrote in message dublin hotels : My wife and I are travelling to Ireland, from the U.S. (Chicago) inNovember. We would like info on the best airlines, airports(Cork,Shannon, Dublin) and the best hotels or B&B's to stay in. By "best" wedon't necessarily mean most expensive or most shi-shi. Maybe the mostcharming or reliable or most worth seeing. Any recommendations? Also, has anyone stayed at THE CLARENCE in Dublin? We were in Ireland several years ago in Oct. Not a drop of rain, and temps inthe 60's. We stayed at the Stephen's on the Green Club and it was wonderful as$65 a night. Be sure and go to Kinsale. Stay at the Old Prebetary on Cork St. Best B & B of the trip and they were all wonderful. Mrs. Coffey's in Fossa isanother wonderful B&B and close to Dingle.Have a good trip.Jim LoganOn Fri, 11 May 2001 01:57:50 +0100, "Ireland Discover" wrote:Thank you for your comment...I'm always eager to know what visitors tomy site like/dislike/think could be better, and constructive criticismis always welcome.Naturally, I'm very sorry that you found the "Irish Buffet" confusing;perhaps you'd be kind enough to expand a bit more on that and let meknow precisely what it was/is that poses difficulty for you. Needlessto say, if corrections are required, I want to make them. dublin hotels : Does anyone know of any good cheap hotels in Dublin near to O'ConnellStreet.Try posting to rec.travel.europe. There was a similar question a few weeksback.--Andrew Taylor. Crumplehorn Inn & Mill a nice place to stay~"Lisa Kennerley" wrote in message...I stayed in the Waverley about six years ago for £15 a night. Very basic butclean b & b. Only a short walk to the pubs etc, although it seemed muchlonger on the way back. It was about 300yards from O`Connell bridge."Lisa Kennerley" wrote in message...Does anyone know of any nice/expensive hotels near O'connell street? I amtaking my girlfriend to Dublin for our anniversary. I want to be around thepubs/clubs so a central position would be great.Myself & my girlfriend went to Dublin last year & stayed at the Jury's Inn ,by the quay.(approx 1/4 mile from O Connell St)I think it was called Jury's Custom House -- but not 100 % certain.V.nice hotel indeed. Not sure about price per night as we booked as part of a package.Whatever you do , don't go to the Holiday Inn coz it's miles out of town.If you are severely rich , you could chose The Clarence Hotel owned by Bonofrom U2.Rooms £900 p.n not including breakfast !!!
