dubai hotels : The data concerning the population of Dubai is controversial. Some sourcessay it is some 100 000 persons (natives only). Some of them say it is up toone million (including all foreign labour force). The city is not yetcompleted, and it is hard to say when it will be. Here and there newhotels, shopping centres, office and residential buildings are erected. Thecity is built right in the desert. Wealthy sheikhs surround their villaswith nice palm gardens, which are watered by computerised sprinklingsystems, while some new buildings in Bur-Dubai are still surrounded withsand.Great article. dubai hotels : Bob, where did you get this rule? I have never heard of it before...I disagree. It is only archaic societies like america which use British Imperial measurements any more. If the author wrote it in centrigrade then leave it in centigrade. (Ok - so you really said to have both centigrade and fahrenheit. Hmmm....Comments anyone?)I would prefer both. It may be archaic, but it's awfully difficult to translatefor us archaic types. dubai hotels : I'll be traveling to Dubai later this year and was wondering if someonecould advise me on hotel accomodation. I've been recommended two hotels:If anyone has experience/knowledge of these two I'd be grateful for theircomments.dubai apparently has the worlds only 7-star hotel, starting at 800 USD anight (saw it on the travel channel)Sheraton Dubai Creek is very nice indeed...and reasonably priced.Ask for aroom with views of the Creek - very pleasant.The only 7 Star Hotel shaped like a sail is the Burj-Al-Arab....and quitespectacular.Thanks Richard. I'm thinking of booking a package with Kuoni but theydon't offer the Sheraton (infact very few British operators seem tohave heard of the Sheraton Dubai Creek!). But Kuoni does have theDubai Intercontinental on offer, so I might go for this.Curiosity got the best of me. The hotel is called Burj Al Arab. (I did a search and found many websites with pictures of it.) Cost of suite goes to over 6000USDThe building really is spectacular-looking. I couldn't get any closerbecause there is a dress code (!) to pass the front gate. The dress code israther entirely incompatible with the local climate.

Get away from the upscale hotel and skyscraper areas and get intoDeira and Bur Dubai for the real experience.but apparently they have a water park on premise, so how can they enforce adress codemaybe if you dont stay there and you are going to eat or for a drink, theymight enforce one... very weirdThe entrance to the water park is outside the entrance to the hotel complex(same driveway off the main road).To get to the hotel you did also have to buy some sort of a ticket or barcoupon but given that I was wearing jeans and sneakers my investigationnever really got that far.What about the Sheraton Deira? Is this the same as the "Dubai Creek"?Peter's right - there's seems to be alot of British tour operatorspushing their customers towards the Jumeriah beach based hotels,rather than the City. Although most folk seem to think that the cityis the better/cheaper option.The Sheraton Deira and the Sheraton Dubai Creek are two different hotels.I've only ever stayed in the City so can't really comment on Jumierahbeach - and only ever as a stopover. I've never booked through a touroperator - just gone to the hotel reservation desk in the Arrivals hall.
