discount hotels : Thought I'd pass this little bit of info along to everyone.Called WDW yesterday (11/6) to book a room at PO/DL for the first week of December. When I asked about the MKC discount for the room, I was told that Disney has decided not to honor itfor the remainder of the year. This was news to me (although in fairness, I haven't been able to check this group for the last week).Anyone have any info as to why all of a sudden (I assume), WDWhas decided to do this ?Also found out that you can only buy tickets to Mickey's Very MerryChristmas specials if you are a guest on property. Ticket price wasquoted at $35 each.In article Glen Macdonald wrote: That's news to me. The first couple of weeks of Decembershould be available, or so I'dve thought. Is this for all hotels? You might try asking about the annual pass discount. -- EthanSome friends tried to get a room for the same time period and they were unable to, either. However, they did get an $89 room at DL which according to my friend is not in a specific location, ie, when she gets there they'll give her the best they have, and she was able to request the water view. Ordinarily the $89 rooms are parking lot view. They weren't able to give her anything less than the $115 rooms at PO. Anyway, so I am not surprised that they told the person that they had no more MKC rooms available thru the end of the year.
discount hotels : We will be there at the same time (actually, 2nd week) and unfortunately, Disney has turned the period between Thanksgiving and Xmas into a "come celebrate the holidays with us" as opposed to a nice time when the parks were at their least crowded for the entire year. As someone who has absolutely no interest in celebrating Xmas, I think this really sucks. Not only that, but apparently they are holding lots of Epcot dinner reservations for people who buy the "candle lighting" (and no, it's not the Chanukah Menorah) package. You get reserved seating at the story of Xmas show and a complete meal at your choice of Epcot restaurants for $34.95. You also get a coupon good for 20% off your purchases at Epcot that day. For a few dollars more you can get admission at Epcot included, but it's only good after 4pm. However, I did get bumped out of the CaribbeanResort for the Port Orleans, which seems nicer anyway. discount hotels : Traveling to Disneyworld in early July. Looking to find out if there are anyinexpensive places to stay near Disneyworld. Please reply to this newsgroupfor all to see.1) call 800 222 KISS to get the tourism guide from theKissimmee/St. Cloud tourism office. They have discounts on localarea hotels.2) Get the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. It'll list alot of hotels in the area. There are cheap hotels right nearby, and, as always, youget what you pay for. There are Motel 6's in the area. BTW, you might not be able to get very much at thispoint. You are going in the busy summer season and you're onlychecking 2-3 weeks in advance. You may only get the scraps, andat less than great prices. Good luck, though. -- EthanRoute 192 East (?) toward Kissemee is loaded with motels in theDays Inn / Budget Inn / Best Western class. I have no idea whatin-season rates are, but during the 1st week of November last yearmany rooms were under $30 for a double. We (family of four) stayedat the Days Inn Suites in a three room suite (plus bath) that wasclean and well maintained for $50 per night. A local travel agenthooked us up with them - check with an agent in your area. It wasabout a 10 or fifteen minute drive to the MK parking lot, and with tramsand all it was still easy for us to go "home" for a mid-day break. Inseason crowds may slow down the trams etc., but I'd gladly stay offsite again to stay on a family budget. Now for a second honeymoon... discount hotels : I don't really know what you consider inexpensive, but our family juststayed at the Radisson on International Drive last week for $49.00 anight. It is a great place and about 10 minutes (not including thetraffic at the gate) to WDW, Universal Studios, Sea World and about 5minutes from Wet N'Wild. The hotel was great! It had nice public areasalong with a large indoor Aquatic Center (operated by the local YMCA) butguests of the hotel have privileges to use it and its gyms. There are lots of hotels in in the surrounding areas that are relativelyinexpensive. But if you have the money......nothing beats staying on theDisney property...either in Disney Village or an actual Disney resort. Good luck and have a great Disney Vacation! In article (Randy Milton) writes: Check the listings in "The Unofficial Guideto WDW". (Sorry, don't have my copy here atwork to refer to....)They are definately some on International Drive, the usual Motel 6 type places and from whatI've heard, Kissimee has several places thatare less expensive that staying at the Disneyresorts..... discount hotels : In article (Randy Milton) writes:This reminds me of the "discount stores" that target tourists near WDW. My kidswanted to get souvineer t-shirts so we kept an eye out for a reasonable t-shirtshop. Of course there is one every couple hundred feet in that area. The onethat really kills me says in 6 foot high letters EVERYTHING $1.99 across thefront of the entire store. Hey the price was incredible, so I had to stop andsee just how incredible or credible it was. I decided I wasn't going to paymore that $1.99 for *anything* in that store. The problem was finding anythingfor less than $15. I asked the cashier what the sign meant outside? He saidwell dat mean that everyding on dis rack $1.99. Which rack? This over dare.<pointing towards the back> oh those little souvineers? After I left I studied the front of the store for any evidence of truth inadvertising and sure enough, in three *inch* high letters in the bottom of the 9 in the six foot EVERYTHING $1.99 was the phrase "or as marked".Discount motels:Sorry to detract from the original question. There are economy motels sprinkledaround there. In fact, they are very competitive with each other. They usuallyhave large computerized signs with the room rates flashing. But in light of the mentality of the other *discount* stores around, I would be cautious with myoptimism. I stayed at Orange Lakes Country Club which is right next to WDW.It's a time-share resort. They gave me 1/2 price roomrates in exchange fortaking their tour/sales pitch. But, even though it was still higher than the*discount* places nearby, it was a town-house/condo at a top-notch country club with zillions of amenities (golf course, olympic pool, ski lake, tennis courts,...) and it was still cheaper than anyplace my travel agent could find.
