best western hotel : As Best Westerns (at least in this country) are independently owned, discount deals tend to be valid only at the particular facility offeringthem, which means you'd have to check with every BW you thought you mightwant to stay at. Not convenient.But if you do decide to go with BW, sign up with BW's Gold Crown Clubwell ahead of your trip. You earn points for each night's stay, basedon the amount of money you spend. The points translate into free roomnights at some future time or a bunch of other things you can choose.In Canada, you can call 1-800-345-4321 to reach the Gold Crown ClubInternational. That desk should also be able to tell you how you canget a copy of the International directory.This isn't true; I just confirmed it with the GCC International desk.(I didn't have their number handy, but called 1-800-STAY-GCC and thenice man transferred me.) GCC members *can* get points for stays atoverseas BWs. It has only been true for about a year, though.I don't know if Canadian GCC members have access to a tied-in creditcard; in the U.S., MBNA America issues Gold Crown Club Visas.You get one point for every $10 charged. When you consider that it takesabout 900 points to earn a free night's stay, this is probably not the bestcredit card freebie program going. :-)
best western hotel : I'm posting this information and e-mailing a copy to ACE Rep JudyCurtis.We finally settled on our fall itinerary and plan to attend RipRoarin' Rampage at VisionLand in October (ACE Regional/Park event).The dates are 16-17 October.As Judy told us a while back (and, posted on the ACE web site), thereare a few rooms at the new Best Western in Bessemer. All other motelsin and east of Bessemer/Birmingham over to the Talladega Racewayheading back toward Georgia appear to be fully booked for thatweekend. I found a room at a La Quinta in Tuscaloosa, but that'sabout 30 miles *southwest* of the park -- not too convenient for Sateve/Sun am ERT (the price *was* reasonable, though -- in the mid$40s).I bit the bullet and booked a double room at the Best Western. TheRRR/Nascar Race rate is <choke> $119 per night. Kathy May, the motelcontact, at first told me there was a two night minimum but Iexplained that this stipulation was not part of the, ahem, "specialRRR rate" conditions according to what Judy told ACE members. Kathyagreed to book one night for me.She asked me to tell you that there only 13 rooms left (at *any*price!) at the hotel for that weekend. Some of those rooms aresingles, at $109., some are doubles at $119., and a couple are higherpriced suites.

best western hotel : I posed similar questions to Best Western International after I stayedat the Best Western Mardi Gras in Las Vegas last summer. The hoteladded a flat charge of $1.50 a day for unlimited local telephone use,and used an AOS for long distance calls. The points I raised were: 1. While the hotel is privately owned, as indicated in the Best Western guide, I expected Best Western International to try to resolve the problem in order to protect their own name and to make sure that the actions of few of their franchisees do not reflect negatively on the entire chain. 2. The $1.50 a day charge, while small, was nonetheless deceptive as it was not indicated in the chain guide nor in any literature I got from the motel; the first time I saw it was in a big sign behind the front desk. Also, I indicated that such a charge was ridiculous and, like electricity, air conditioning, and hot water, telephone service was one of the things customers have the right to expect as part of the room rate. 3. Finally, I pointed out that in using an AOS, the hotel was looking for the best deal for themselves instead of for their guests, and by blocking 10xxx (I supplied AT&T's, Sprint's, and MCI's code) they were preventing their guests from having the access they were entitled to.
