amsterdam hotel : I've just been quoted Nlg.242,40 per night for Twin/Double room (noguarantee) in June 2001 at the Terminus Hotel in Amsterdam. wanted 3nights.That's a hell of a lot more than I remember paying in June 1999. Haveprices really gone up that much?? or am I being unreasonable? (again). If someone knows of something cheaper in a similar location (500metres from the Central Railway Station) and similar standard, wouldyou be so kind as to post here or email direct toThere is a shortage of hotel rooms in Amsterdam, so yes, prices havegone up. Also, as most of the tourists in Amsterdam are Brits and Yanks, clever businessmen/hotel-owners have raised proces in NLG even more toreflect the euro/pound and euro/USdollar exchange rate movements. SoBrits and Americans still find prices in Amsterdam acceptable, while forpeople from other countries they have become extremely expensive. (stillmuch cheaper than New York, London or Moscow, though)If you stay outside of Amsterdam (Haarlem, Utrecht) you will find muchmore reasonable prices. The Dutch are masters at tourist rip-offs-all the drugs they do have rotted their brains,go to belgium instead.<< Subject: Re: Amsterdam Hotel ratesFrom: "mu" The Dutch are masters at tourist rip-offs- allthe drugs they do have rotted their brains, >>
amsterdam hotel : These kind of defaming messages do not belong on this newsgroup. Having beento Amsterdam for over fortyfive years I can truthfully say that I have neverbeen ripped of by anyone in that city. In fact the Amsterdamers have alwaysgone the extra mile to politly cater to tourists in every facet of their stays unlike some other other European cities.I totally agree. People in Amsterdam are far more nicer than anyone else youwill ever meet in Europe.I must say that the Dutch, as a group, are among the finest andfunniest people I have met. However, they are not inclined to giveaway money, or to ignore the opportunity to make a fair profit from, say, a glut of visitors to a city with a limited number of hotelrooms. Is it done differently in Vermont? If you check, you'll find that self-reported drug use among EVERY agegroup in the Netherlands is lower than among the corresponding agegroup in the USA. And, BTW, it has been said that the Dutch aretolerant of everything except rudeness, so you, Mr mu, should goelsewhere.i don't think so. all the stoners i met in amsterdam were american expats.well, most of them anyway. and as for tourists rip-off's, you should knowbetter than to hang out in those places. washington d.c. has more thanit's fair share of overpriced tourist crap. amsterdam hotel : Hey mu: We found the Dutch to be among the finest we have visited. Likeus Americans, they are entrepreneurs operating in a free market economyso they'll charge what the going rate is.Doug<< I've just been quoted Nlg.242,40 per night for Twin/Double room (noguarantee) in June 2001 at the Terminus Hotel in Amsterdam. That's a hell of alot more than I remember paying in June 1999. Haveprices really gone up that much?? or am I being unreasonable? (again) >>According to the Amsterdam Hotel Guide 2000Room rates at the Terminus range for a twin/double range from fl 230-275. Mylast years guide to Amsterdam Hotels show the Terminus doubles at fl 210-240.Considering that energy prices in Europe have increased 23% in eight months,IMO that doesn't appear to be a unreasonable rate increase. All the hotelprices here in my city, San Francisco have gone up around 20% because of thehigh cost of energy. DAS ROTE skrev iA real bad excuse. The cost of heating, hot water and electricity for my3room flat is something equal to US$ 90/month. The daily cost for a hotelroom must be a fraction only of that sum. They may have their reasons forhigher rates (demand/supply is the usual) but to rise prices to such amountsas above with energy prices as an excuse can't be fair ? Lennart Petersen amsterdam hotel : Hallo, Can anybody in this group recommend a good hotel in Amsterdamwith 'extra' facilities for me and my SO.I'm looking for somewhere with maybe a waterbed, mirrored ceilings, possibly a fully equipped dungeon available.---------------------------------------- ------------------------------------To find out more about the anon service, send mail to If you reply to this message, your message WILL be *automatically* anonymizedand you are allocated an anon id. I fear that your question is just a joke.hmmm.... 'SO' stands for Significant Other, which seems to be the Politically Correct term (yuck) for partner/wife etc.I do wonder with Chris about the sincerity od a question like this put trough an anoynmous remailer...So, this is someone who wants to do very nasty things in Amsterdam, together with his girl friend (or boy friend). What he seems to belooking for is a kind of whorehouse where you can bring your own.A very creative thought. However, as he is too chicken to post in the normal way I decide that he does not deserve any help from me. amsterdam hotel : Wouldn't you put a question like that through an anonymous remailer? I happento know people I work with read this newsgroup.P.S. no it was not me that asked the original question. However . . . . .(kidding)A fully equipped dungeon, eh? Sounds a bit out of the ordinary, but I suppose you'd find it in Amsterdam if anywhere. The hotel list provided by the national tourist office indicates which hotels are "Gay". There areseveral gay guides to Amsterdam, I don't have any titles. Happy .. ah ...Chris Oort writesI just don't believe it!...First you ask what 'SO' means and get an answer then you ask why use an 'anon' address then after all that you have no intention of telling the original poster a place to go. Really you should consider what an 'anon' server is used for so why answer at all?? I doubt by your reply that you know the difference of a hotel and a whorehouse. Err, he (or she) did *not* ask for any help from you personally and what exactly are these 'nasty' things you mention? There appears to be a certain bit of nievety in your reply eh?? So at the end you decided to drag out 5 threads for absolutely nothing as you can't help with the information required. And there was I eager to see some positive information. <grin> Suppose it would be easier for the original poster to glean the Amsterdam pages on the WWW - You might like to do that as well as I think you will be surprised!
